- CIV - A la muerte de la Excelentísima Señora Marquesa del Carpio

Esta flor, esta estrella, esta hermosura,
fragante, esclarecida, y admirada,
de divinos trofeos coronada,
vuelve al engaño la prisión oscura.
Gloriosa en la prisión, que siempre dura,
deja nuestra ignorancia lastimada,
y en el temprano triunfo acreditada,
sus ínclitas virtudes asegura.
Llega huésped lloroso, que turbado
asombras el disgusto negligente,
verás que llevas tu atención sencilla.
El cadáver, que extrañas tan trocado
en el afecto nada diferente,
que maravilla fue, y es maravilla.
