- XXXI - A la contradicción de sus afectos
Este fuego que alumbra, y que no abrasa,
pues hay alguna parte que no encienda
esta dificultad, esta contienda,
que en la razón y en los afectos pasa.
Este incendio de fuerza tan escasa,
que no hay sentido que guardar emprenda,
y sin contradicción que le defienda,
tan eficaz a las potencias pasa.
Parece material en el tormento,
y eterno se descubre en lo que dura,
sin consumir el alma en quien se ceba.
Yo no sé descifrar mi pensamiento,
sé que el amor su calidad apura,
con el examen de una llama nueva.
