Si a la región adonde el Sol no llega
me fueses colocado, dueño mío,
donde se hiela el mar y cuaja el río
y ni uno corre ni otro se navega;

si te huyes, mi bien, a la Noruega
en los rigores del invierno frío
o adonde en el ardiente y seco estío
golfo de rayos la Etiopía anega;

si en el África estéril y arenosa
de víboras ardientes habitada
te viese entre sus áspides más fiera,

tal es de amor la fuerza poderosa
que si a éstas partes fueras trasladada,
lleve el diablo mi vida si allá fuera.
