Con vano ardor, con apetito ciego
lidiaban por la eterna monarquía
los dioses soberanos; que aun ardía
la ambición en el reino del sosiego.

Empuñó el libre dios el tirso griego,
el acero fatal Marte esgrimía,
y el soberano Júpiter movía
en cada rayo la región del fuego.

Entre los soberanos batallones,
luego que el arco el ciego dios previno,
a su diestra la gloria fue precisa.

¡Ah terrible poder de sus arpones!
Venció el amor todo el poder divino,
pero al amor los ojos de Narcisa.
