Niégueme a vuestros ojos celestiales
mares y montes de soberbia llenos;
y en vuestra ausencia, de remedio ajenos,
sienta mi vida los prolijos males.
Que si gran ira y gran amor, iguales
merecen el castigo, por lo menos
podremos vernos en oscuros senos,
más allá de los límites mortales.
Pero si yo, de mucho amar la pena,
y vos, de mucho aborrecer, debemos,
esta esperanza lisonjera miente,
que a pagar cada culpa se condena
en diferentes orbes, y tendremos
para penar estancia diferente.
