- XVIII - La ausencia de Celia disculpa no haber muerto de amor

Dirás, Celia, que finge, o que encarece
mi artificio el dolor, porque la vida,
que en tantas quejas se mostró rendida,
rebelde a la fatiga permanece.
Y así en la luz que tu beldad ofrece
de los soplos del Austro defendida,
se muestre en el Diciembre tan florida,
la púrpura de Abril como amanece.
Que se ha visto en el tránsito postrero
varias veces el alma: y el aliento
del padecer feliz, vence al destino.
Para que pene más, porque no muero,
y viva desluciendo lo que siento,
con las mismas finezas que imagino.
