Llegó al Calvario él que a morir venía
para la vida del linaje humano,
el Cordero de Dios, que Soberano,
los pecados del mundo deshacía.
El pueblo pertinaz en su porfía,
sin moderar el corazón tirano,
ejercitó la ingratitud villano,
aun cuando vio, que el Redentor moría.
Estremeciose la naturaleza,
oscureciose el Sol, desanimando
todas las luces, que su fin reunieron.
Las piedras conmutando su dureza
con pechos racionales, y cobrando
compasiva blandura, y fe rompieron.
