La causa a tu aguardar (¡si la escuchares!)
estas letras dirán, que vuelven mares
mil ojos: ¡ten la planta presurosa!
Bien que leve, la tierra en que reposa
blandamente durmiendo en los altares
que ves (y es bien su eternidad repares)
envidia al tiempo y a la edad forzosa.
De la esquiva beldad, la docta frente
ceñida, amenazó su hermosa altura
desprecio a Homero y igualdad al cielo.
Viste ya de dolor la tierra dura.
Tal, Fama, llora; y puedes, que presente
su fama al mundo abraza en alto vuelo.
