Fabio si el Cielo obligación tuviera
a aquellos, que le deben el talento,
deudor de vuestro raro entendimiento,
deudor de vuestro justo celo fuera.
De acción, que por sí sola se exagera,
en vos mismo tenéis merecimiento,
y así, donde, no alcanza el pensamiento,
como puede volar pluma grosera.
No debe el cielo lo que da, mas hace
deuda propia de propio beneficio,
y de pagar, sin ser deudor, trofeo.
De sí mismo al ingenio satisface,
y como, del más puro sacrificio,
se permite adeudar de tu deseo.
