El hijo de Peleo, que celebrado
tanto de Homero fue con alta lira,
con su madre su mal llora y suspira,
la suerte lamentando de su estado.
Que sobre haberle corta vida dado,
pase tan adelante la su ira,
que doquier que él revuelva, si se mira,
se vea de trabajos rodeado.
Si la fortuna de un tal hombre es gloria,
con gloria quedarás tú, Garcilaso,
pues, con la de él, tu gloria va medida.
Tu esfuerzo nunca fue flaco ni laso,
tus trabajos hicieron larga historia,
y te cupo, tras esto, corta vida.
