Nunca de amor estuve tan contento,
que en su loor mis versos ocupase:
ni a nadie aconsejé que se engañase
buscando en el amor contentamiento.
Esto siempre juzgó mi entendimiento,
que de este mal todo hombre se guardase;
y así por que esta ley se conservase,
holgué de ser a todos escarmiento.
¡Oh! vosotros que andáis tras mis escritos,
gustando de leer tormentos tristes,
según que por amar son infinitos;
mis versos son deciros: ¡Oh! benditos
los que de Dios tan gran merced hubistes,
que del poder de amor fuésedes quitos.
