Rector, a la esperanza infiel no aspira
con fugitivas horas tu Lamberto;
por conocido, más que por experto,
de sus falsos halagos se retira;
dentro de sí con generosa ira
en lo oculto del alma ha descubierto
que la parte inferior tiene por cierto,
lo que a más noble luz ve que es mentira;
si el sentido aparente gloria alcanza,
siempre el deseo de mayor le queda,
por no ser cierto bien la semejanza;
dichoso será, y rey, aquel que pueda
el desengaño ser de su esperanza,
y sellar con su imagen la moneda.
