Este, que a breve mármol reducido,
lágrimas solicita, si no horrores,
si a duración atiende, si a esplendores,
fue cometa veloz, fue sol lucido.

Tributo a fatal golpe dio debido,
porque dejase en fúnebres rigores,
entre acciones humanas superiores,
su valor de divino desmentido.

Quejas de la virtud tiene la vida,
pues causa fue su perfección temprana
de evitarle más años, por ociosos.

¡Oh pira, a noble fénix construida!
Pues sol te mira en cumbre soberana,
desmientan ya sus hechos generosos.
